KQ #1: What internal political, economical, and social ties did Africans have?
Definition

Political Ties:

- In 1910, four colonies in Africa , Cape, Notal, Transvaal, and Orange Free State came together as the Union of South Africa

- Each of the four former colonies would decide whether blacks could vote. A small number of votes in Cape Province and Natal voted for African rights.

- However, in the end only whites could be elected to the national Parliament.

Segregation during the Apartheid:
Definition

- The Mines and Works Act (1911) only allowed whites to have skilled jobs in the mining industry

- The Natives Land Act (1913) prevented Africans from owning land in any part of South Africa

- Because of all these laws, Africans were in the lowest class and had to work for the whites of South Africa who were known as Afrikaners.
