In 1876, George A. Custer tried to wipe out an entire camp of Native Americans, including Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Custer rushed into battle at Little Bighorn, despite his scouts many warnings. He and his soldiers ended up being th eones who were wiped out. This is historically significant, because when Easterners heard about this they were furious. After, they were all insanely anti-Indian, and they forced all Natives onto reservations.  After this no one questioned harsh Native American policies.

The Native Americans (lead by Sitting Bull) believed that a special dance called the Ghost Dance could save them from the whites, but the whites saw the dance as a direct threat.  In 1890,at Wounded Knee, the US soldiers came and ended up killing Sitting Bull (because he resisted).  The US originally was going to take all Sitting Bull's followers captive, but then a gunshot was shot, which caused a massacre of many Native Americans.

In Utah,1869, the workers of the Transcontinental Railroad finished the job.  The Transcontinental Railroad (commisioned by Leland Stanford) was the first railroad to full connect the west to the east.  This is historically significant,because it caused people to populate the west (and send goods back to the east.  It also caused the Native Americans to loose their livelyhood (buffalo, which were hunted by whites for their hides) and homes.
