john d rockefeller of cleveland, ohio along with 2 partners founded in 1862.

in the early to mid 1860's oil was used mainly for lighting , the market was limiteded and prices fluctuated dramatically. to try & stabilize prices rockefeller united with o.h. payne refinery creating the largest oiil company in ohio. they then bought out or convinced other smaller firms to join them and drove thier compotition out of business by undercutting prices. ( selling Cheap). in 1870 rockefeller joins these companies together forming Standard Oil

this bill made it easier fior the government to take away land from the indians for things like railroad expantion or mineral i.e. gold and silver
