~ North Korea (Communist) invades South in June
~ UN pressured by US to condemn North Korea's invasion of South Korea; same time sent military and supplies
~ UN condemned, sent troops (mainly USA); Russia couldn't veto, boycotting
~ October: North cornered near Chinese border, China's leader warned would join war if North pressed any further; UN kept on, China joined, pushed UN back behind 38th parallel
~ fighting reached stalemate at 38th parallel
~ MacArthur (USA general in charge of UN troops) tried to push on; Truman disagreed, wanted containment; MacArthur blatantly threatened China; he is removed
~ armistice signed in July 1953
