holds the tendons in place

-flexor retinaculum: posteriomedially and extends between the medial malleolus and the calcaneus

-tendons of the deep muscles of the leg pass though it.

Fibular retinacula: (superior fibular retinacula, passes between the lateral malleolus and the calcaneus)(inferior fibular retinaculum attached at both its ends to the calcaneus.

-extensor retinacula: (superior extensor retinaculum passes between the tibia and fibula and above the malleoli)(inferior extensor retinaculum connected to the lateral and dorsal surfaces of the calcaneus.
