Amerigo Vespucci because Martin Waldseemuller was creating an atlas of the new world. Within this atlas were journal enrties from men who had explored the counrty. Since he was unable to get one of Christopher Columbus' he just said that Amerigo was the first so that he could be credited with having a journal entry from the first explorer of the New World. He changed history to fit his needs. |
