Term
Femur: Head
Definition
The head is the most superior end of the femur. It is the ball in the coxal ball and socket joint that articulates with the acetbulum[image]
Term
Femur: Medial and Lateral Condyles
Definition
Distal to the body of the femur, the femoral condyles articulate with condyles of the tibia and muscles of the knee to create the knee joint[image]
Term
Femur: Gluteal Tuberosity
Definition

A posterior, ridged protrusion distal to femoral neck, but proximal to femoral body. It is the attachment point for the gluteal muscles

Term
Femur: Neck
Definition
The femoral neck is the attachment of the head and body of the femur. It is less thick than the body and therefore is a common fracture site
Term
Femur: Patellar Surface
Definition

The femoral patellar surface is a smooth covering of the condyles on the anterior side of the femur. It is the attachment point for the patella.

Term
Tibia: Medial and Lateral Condyles
Definition

The lateral and medial condyles of the tibia are on the most proximal end. They attach with the condyles of the femur to create the knee joint.

Term
Tibia: Tibial Tuberosity
Definition

The tibial tuberosity is distal to the condyles, but proximal to the shaft. It is the attachment point for the patellar tendon.

Term
Tibia: Medial Malleolus / Fibula: Lateral Malleolus
Definition

The malleoli, at the distal ends of the tibias and fibulas, are bluging projections. They articulate with the taluses and ligaments of the foot to form the ankle.

Term
Tibia/Fibula: Interosseous Borders
Definition

The interosseous border of the tibia is lateral, and medial on the fibula. They are the attachment points for the interosseous membrane.

Term
Tibia: Fibular Notch
Definition
The fibular notch is on the distal end of the tibia and on the posterior, lateral side. The notch articulates with the fibula to connect the two lower leg bones.
