Action:  Elevates mandible, closes Jaw, helps lateral pterygoid in moving jaw side to side.

 

Innervation:  Mandibular nerve, CN V3.

 

Artery:  Pterygoid branches of maxillary artery

Action:  elevation of ribs, expands the transverse dimensions of the thoracic cavity

Origin:  Upper border of rib, ribs 2-12

 

Insertion:  Lower border of rib above

 

Action:  Aids in forced expiration, responsible for the depression of the ribs decreaseing the transverse dimensions of the thoracic cavity.

Action:  Draws mouth inferiorly and widens it.  Used during expression of sadness and fight.  Also draws skin of neck superiorly as you clench your teeth.
