Interior: manubrium of the sternum and medial third of the clavicle

 

Innervation:

1. Motor innervation: spinal portion of (spinal) accessory nerve

2. Sensory innervation to the muscles is by branches from cervical spinal nerves (C2 & C3)

 

Actions at the cervical intervertebral (I-V) joints:

Flexion (mid and lower only), extension (upper, A-A and A-O only), Abduction/lateral, flexion/side bend, rotation to the opposite side
