Meat (Ram) Breed.

Montedale

Ram Breed. Hardy. Very Tall and Muscular. Excelent Mothers. ↑ Lamb Weight.

Hampshire

Similiar in appearance to the Suffolk (Full black face, white body, black points) except with long legs. Meat.

Dorset

Pretty, all white. Lean. Very common in FFA. Pink nosed. Polled and Horned.

Southdown

 Heavily muscled carcasses. Originated in England. Able to handle wet climates. Off-white.

Corriedale

Can be black or white. Wool Breed. Great milking ability. New Zealand Origins.

Dorper

known for being a "HAIR" breed. Do not require shearing. Black face, rest of body is white. Very Hardy. Patches of wool on back.

Katahdin

Excellent mothers. Meaty carcasses. Can withstand heat. Largest of the "hair" breeds. 

Rambouilet

Descendent from Merino. Dominates US Sheep industry (50%). Polled and Horned.

Karakul

"Hair" breed. Noted for "carpet wool" or "Persian Lamb Fur"

Cotswolt

Sheep with the wavy hair, long lustrous locks.  Hardy.

Lincoln

Can be white, tan, brown. Very thick locks. Really fabulous sheep.

Excellent milkers. Naturally short tails (no need to dock). Sometimes black and white.

Black belly. Kinda looks like the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, except opposite. Horned. Hair breed.

Red Angus

Same as angus, but red in color. Were registered with black angus until 1917.

Big, red cattle with White face, dewlap, underbelly. Hardy. Great foragers. Prone to eye problems.

Shorthorn

Dual-purpose. Originated in northern england. Red, white, or roan.

Galloway

originated in scotland. Notable for long hair coat. Soft fur-like undercoat. Black, dun, brown, red.

Charolais

Oldest french breed of cattle. white or light straw color. Excelent growth rates and feed efficiency. Low quality carcass.

Chianina

Calves born tan, but turn porcelain white. Very pretty. Black skin & switch. Very long legs.

Gelbvieh

"yellow cattle", reddish yellow to black. Triple purpose breed. Excelent milkers, ↑ growth rate, good carcasses.

Limousin

Evolved as beef & work cattle. Red-gold color, sometimes black. Known for "yard fattening". Disposition can be a problem.

Maine-Anjou

first seedstock in US, 1970. ↑ Milk production, ↑ Growth rates, well marbled. Dark red & white. Also black & white. Horned breed.

Brahman

Originated from Indian cattle. Distint hump on the shoulder. aka Zebu. Hardy. Early maturing. Great mothers. 

Holstein

Dairy Cow. "Happy cows come from california". High Milk Yeild.

Jersey

Dairy Cow. Fawn color. High Milkfat content.

Texas Longhorn.

Distinctive "long horns". Almost went extinct in 1900. High fertility.

Corriente

Commonly used for rodeo. Horned. First cattle brought to the New World.
