act passed by Congress in 1830. federal govt to pay Native Americans to move west. Jackson sent officials to negotiate with Native Americans. Most Native Americans felt pressured to accept payment for their land. In 1834, Congress created the Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) for the Native American's to move to. ( Trail of Tears forced march of Native Americans to Indian Territory

Cherokee sued the state govt and took their case to the Supreme Court in Worchester v. Georgia. President Jackson suppost the removal of the Cherokee and he ignored the Supreme Court's ruling by Chief Justice John Marshall.
