Term

The inferior gluteal nerve is damaged.

1) From where did this nerve originate

2) What muscles perform the opposite functions of the muscles that this nerve innervates?

3) What is the innervation to these muscles?

Definition

1) Sacral plexus (L4-S4)

2) Inf gluteal n. innervates the gluteus medius, minimus and and tensor faciae latae, which medially rotate the hip.

Lateral rotation of hip: sartorius, gluteus maximus, obturator externus, deep gluteal muscles (piriformis, sup gemellus, obturator internus, inf gemellus, quadratus femoris)

3) sartorius (femoral n), gluteus maximus (sup gluteal n.), obturator externus (obturator n.), deep gluteal muscles (motor branches of sacral plexus).

Term

The adductor magnus atrophied.

1) What muscles can pick up the slack?

2) What muscles perform the opposite functions?

Definition

Adductor part--adduct hip (obturator n.)

1) adductor longus and brevis, pectinius (femoral n./obturator n.), gracilis-weakly (obturator n.)

2) gluteus minimus, medius (sup gluteal n.), sartorius (femoral n.)

Hamstring part--extends hip (tibial n.)

1) semitendinosis, semimembranosis, long head of biceps femoris, gluteus maximus (inf gluteal n.)

2) rectus femoris, sartorius, iliopsoas (femoral n.), pectinius (femoral/obturator n.), tensor fasciae latae (sup gluteal n.)
