Definition

A change that occurs in a substance that cannot be reversed or undone.

 

The change results in an entirely different substance, such as a piece of wood burning and becoming ash; iron changing to rust; or separate ingredients becoming a cake.

When substances form a solution.

 

 Example: Sugar dissolving in water.

Definition

A collection of materials in which the materials do not join together and each material keeps in own physical properties.

Example: Sugar is soluble in water, but ground pepper is not.

 A type of mixture in which the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together (usually with a liquid), such as lemonade, tea or saltwater.

 

A solution can be separated, but not easily.

Definition

The measure of the amount of matter and the force of gravity on an object.

 

Weight is NOT mass.
