        | Identification of Lumbar Vertebra | | Definition

        | 1- Large Size of Body 2- Costal Facets are absent

        | Term
 | Definition

        | Height is greater Anteriorly than Posteriorly. This makes the Lumbar spine convex forwards | |

        | Inferior Articular Processe | | Definition

        | Convex Facet facing forwards and laterally | |
        | |

        | Term

        | Typical Vertebra VS Atypical Vertebra | | Definition

        | Transverse process are THIN AND TAPERING. Whereas in Atypical, Transverse processes are THICK, SHORT, PYRAMIDAL.
 2. Spine is longer, without Articular facet. In Atypical, Spine is SMALL, SHORT, and has ARTICULAR FACET for Sacrum

 3. Bodies comparatively smaller. In Atypical, body is LARGER. Anterior Surface is deeper than Posterior. This gives them a SHARP LUMBOSACRAL ANGLE.

4- Superior articular Facet is backwards and medially. In Atypical, Superior Articular facet is MORE BACKWARDS.

5- Inferior Articular facet is forwards and laterally. In Atypical, Inferior Articular facet : MORE FORWARDS

        | Attachments of Lumbar Vertebral Arch | | Definition

        | Lamina : Ligamentum Flava Spine : Posterior layer of Lumbar Fascia, Interspinous ligament, Supraspinous ligament, Erector Spinae, Multibifidus, interspinal muscles

 Transverse Processes :
Tip : Attachment to the middle layer of Lumbar Fascia. Tip of first lumbar vertebrae gives attachment to Lateral and Medial Arcuate ligament. and Tips of last lumbar vertebra gives attachment to Iliolumbar ligament.
 2. Anterior Surface of Transverse process has a faint ridge for the attachment of Anterior layer of lumbar fascia. Medial to this ridge, is the attachment of PSOAS MAJOR and lateral to this ridge is the attachment of Quadratus Lumborum.

Posterior Surface gives attachment to : muscles of the back, including LONGISSIMUS THORACIS. Accessory process gives attachment to medial intertransverse muscle and upper and lower borders provide attachment to LATERAL INTERTRANSVERSE muscles.
Mamillary process gives attachment to multifidus and medial intertransverse muscles.
