Term
What is the overview of the muscle of the pelvic girdle and lower limbs?
Definition

- Muscle of the lower limbs are larger and more powerful than those of the upper limbs

-Divided into three groups.

=Muscles that move the thigh.

=Muscles that move the leg.

=Muscles that move the foot and toes.

Term
What are the muscles that move the thigh?
Definition

- Gluteus Macimus

- Gluteus Medius/Minimus

- Piriformis

- Gracilic

- Adductor (brevis, longus, and magnus)

- Iliacus

- Psocas major

Term

What is the Gluteus Maximus:

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

Origin- Iliac crest, posterior gluteal line, sacrum and coccyx.

Insertion- Iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of the femur.

Action- Extension and lateral rotation of the thigh at the hip.

Term

What is the Gluteus Medius/minimus :

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

Origin-

Medius- Iliac crest between the posterior and anterior gluteal lines (lateral surface).

Minimus- Between the inferior and anterior gluteal lines.

Insertion- Greater trochanter of the femur.

Action- Abduction and medial rotation at the hip.

Term

WHat is the Pirirformis:

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

Origin- Anterolateral surface of the sacrum.

Insertion- Greater

Action- Lateral rotation and abduction at the hip, helps maintain stability and integrity of the hip.

Term

What is the Gracilis:

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

Origin- Inferior ramus of the pubis.

Insertion- Medial surface of teh tibia inferior of the medial condyle.

Action- Flexion and medial rotation of the knee, adduction and medial rotation at the hip.

= Pulls the pelvis over the thigh for balance and stability.

Term

What is Adductor(brecis lingus and magnus)?

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

- Pulls groin- Strain in one of the adductor muscles

Origins: Inferior ramus of the publis

Insertion: Linea aspera

Action: Adduction and flexion at the hip.

Term

What is Iliacu?

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

- With the psoas major, dominates the medial surface of the pelvis

Origin: Iliac fossa

Insertion: Femur distal to the lesser trochanter (tendon fuses with that of the psosas major.

Action: Flecion at the hip.

Term

What is the Psoas Major

Origin?

Insertion?

Action?

Definition

Origin: ANterior sufaces and transverse processes of vertedrae(T12-L5)

Insertion: Lesser trochanter in comany with the iliacus

Action: Flexion at the hip flexion of lumbar interverbral joints.
