Pectineus

Definition

Origin: Sup. ramus of pubis.


Insertion: Pectineal line of femur, inf. to lesser trochanter.


Action: ADD and flexion of thigh; assists with IR.


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3); may receive a branch from obturator n.


Blood: Ant. branch obturator a.

Term

Iliopsoas

Definition

Origin: Iliacus- Iliac crest and fossa, ala of sacrum, ant. sacroiliac ligt.

           Psoas Major- Sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and IVD; TVPs of all lumbar vertebrae.

Insertion: Iliacus- Tendon of psoas major, lesser trochanter and femur distal to it.

                Psoas Major- lesser trochanter.

Action: Flexion of thigh or trunk; Stabilize hip joint.

Innervation: Iliacus- Femoral n. (L2, L3).

                   Psoas Major- Ventral rami of L1, L2.

Blood: Femoral and med. femoral circumflex aa.

Term

Sartorius

Definition

Origin: ASIS and sup. part of notch inf. to it.


Insertion: Sup. part med. surface of tibia (pes anserine)


Action: Flexion, ABD, and ER of thigh; flexion of leg; IR leg when knee is fixed.


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3).


Blood: Femoral a.

Rectus Femoris

Definition

Origin: AIIS and ilium sup. to acetabulum.


Insertion: Tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon.


Action:
 Extension of leg; flexion of thigh; Steadies hip joint.


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3, L4)


Blood: Femoral a.

Vastus Lateralis

Definition

Origin: Greater trochanter and lat. lip linea aspera.


Insertion: Tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon.


Action: Extension of leg.


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3, L4)


Blood: Femoral and profunda femoris aa.

Vastus Intermedius

Definition

Origin: Ant. and lat. surfaces of shaft of femur.


Insertion: Tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon.


Action: Extension of leg


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3, L4)


Blood: Femoral a.

Vastus Medialis

Definition

Origin: Intertrochanteric line and med. lip of linea aspera.


Insertion: Tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon.


Action: Extension of leg.


Innervation: Femoral n. (L2, L3, L4)
