Term
Largest adductor in group? (2 parts)
Definition
Adductor magnus, adductor and hamstring parts.
Term
Adductor Magnus (Adductor part)
Definition
Origin- Inferior ramus of the pubis, ramus of ischium
Insertion- Gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line.
Innervaion- Posterior division of obturator nerve
Action- adducts thigh
Term
Adductor Magnus (Hamstring part)
Definition
Origin- Ischial tuberosity
Insertion- Adductor tubercle of femur
Innervation- Tibial part of sciatic nerve
Action- extends thigh
Term
Adductor Hiatus
Definition
An opening in the aponeurotic distal attachment of the adductor magnus. Transmits the femoral artery and vein from the adductor canal in the thigh to the popliteal fossa posterior to the knee.
Term
Adductor hiatus transmits the ______________ and the ____________ from the adductor ______________ in the thigh to the _______________ fossa ___________ to the knee.
Definition
femoral artery and vein, adductor canal in the thigh, popliteal fossa posterior to the knee
Term
Adductor longus
Definition
large fan shaped muscle
Most anteriorly placed of the adductor group.
Origin- Body of pubis inferior to pubic crest.
Insertion- Middle third of the linea aspera (just above the adductor hiatus)
Innervation- anterior division of obturator nerve
Action- Adducts and flexes the thigh
Term
Adductor Brevis
Definition
Lies deep to the adductor longus. Sits in front of adductor magnus.
Origin- Body and inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion- Pectineal line and proximal part of linea aspera of femur
Innervation- Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4) branch of anterior division
Action- adducts thigh and to some extent flexes it.
Term
Pectineus
Definition
Shortest adductor muscle, located in the anterior part of superomedial aspect of thigh.
Origin- Superior ramus of pubis
Insertion- Pectineal Line of femur
Innervation- Femoral nerve usually, maybe branch from obturator.
Action- adducts thigh, assist with medial rotation of thigh.
Term
Adductor muscles that do not receive innervation from obturator nerve?
Definition
Pectineus- femoral nerve
Adductor magnus (hamstring)- tibial division of sciatic
Term
Gracilis
Definition
Most superficial and weakest muscle of adductor group
Only muscle in adductor group to cross knee joint
Origin- Body and inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion- Superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation- obturator nerve
Action - adducts thigh, flexes leg, helps rotate medially
Term
Action of adductors
Definition
adduct thigh, flex leg, medially rotate thigh
Term
Origin of most of the adductors
Definition
Ramus of pubis
Term
Only adductor muscle to cross the knee joint
Definition
Gracilis
Term
Adductor muscles that do medial rotation
Definition
pectineus and gracilis
Term
adductor muscle that does adduction, flexion and medial rotation.
Definition
gracilis
Term
The shortest adductor muscle
Definition
pectineus
Term
What adductor originates in the ramus of pubis and the ramus of ischium and inserts into the gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, and medial supracondylar line?
Definition
Adductor magus, adductor part
Term
What adductor originates in the ischial tuberosity and inserts into the adductor tubercle?
Definition
adductor magus, hamstring part
Term
What adductor originates in the pubis inferior to the pubic crest and inserts in the middle third of the linea aspera?
Definition
Adductor Longus
Term
What adductor originates in the ramus of pubis and inserts into the pectineal line and proximal part of the linea aspera?
Definition
Adductor brevis
Term
What adductor originates in the superior ramus of pubis and inserts into the pectineal line?
Definition
pectineus
Term
What is the shortest adductor muscle?
Definition
pectineus
Term
What is the most superficial adductor?
Definition
gracilis
Term
What is the weakest adductor muscle?
Definition
gracilis
