Definition

-also known as the hip.

-each coxal hip consists of three bones that fuse together

-two coxal bones are joined anteriorly by the pubic symphysis (fibrocartilage)

-It is joined posteriorly by the sacrum.

Definition

-it is the largest of the three hip bones

-it is the superior part of the hip bone.

-it consists of a superior ala and inferior body which forms the acetabulum (socket for head of femur).

- it also has the greater sciatic notch.

-It is the inferior and posterior part of the hip bone.

-the most prominenet feature is the ischial tuberosity, which is the part that meets the chair when you are sitting.

-It atriculates with the ilium posteriorly, and the pubis anteriorly.

-is the anterior and inferior part of the hip bone.

-the anterior, superior part of the body is the pubic crest.

-at its lateral end is a projection called the pubic tubercle.

-it unites the superior rami of the left and right pubic bones.

-located anterior to the urinary bladder and superior to the external genitalia.

Female

-generally light and thin, have a shallow greater pelvis, the pelivc brim is larger and more oval

 

Male

-it is generally heavy and thick, it has a deep false pelvis, and its pelvic brim is smaller and heart-shaped.
