: POST/INF gap between ANT/POST surfaces-bridged by transverse acetabular ligament; give attachment to ligament to femoral head

·      attachment to obturator membrane except superior where ramus of pubis has obturator groove for nerve and vessels

o   Oval in males; triangular in females

·      smooth internal concavity of ala; gives ORIGIN to ILIACUS

·      right above acetabulum/ upper part of it; forms upper 2/5 of acetabulum

·      Superior part of ilium is intermediate zone, outer lip on side of acetabulum, inner lip on opposing

o   Crest begins posteriorly at PSIS (S2 skin dimple) and ends at ASIS (palpable)

o   Highest point is at L3/L4

Tubercle on outer lip of iliac crest (L5)

Shallow notch, and just below is AIIS

Just inferior to ASIS

·      Shallow notch at Posterior end, just INF is PIIS, and INF to that is Greater Sciatic Notch

On Acetabular side; on ala of iliumo   FROM TOP TO BOTTOM

§  POSTERIOR à ANTERIOR à INFERIOR

§  Give origins to Gluteus Minimus (INFERIOR à ANTERIOR),

§  Origin to Gluteus Medius (ANTERIOR à POSTERIOR)

§  Origin to Gluteus Maximus (POSTERIOR to POSTERIOR)

o   begins SUP at Iliac Crest in front of PSIS à runs INF and ends at SUP border of Greater Sciatic Notch in front of PIIS

o   Begins just ANT/INF to Iliac Tubercle à arches POST/INF and ends at SUP border of Greater Sciatic Notch

o   Begins just ANT/INF to Iliac Tubercle à arches POST/INF and ends at SUP border of Greater Sciatic Notch
