-used because it was the cheapest most efficient way to kill masses of people

-began heavy use of Zyclon B after 1942 because it was stipulated as the most effiecent means of killing in the Vansee conference.

Kristallnacht

Definition

-Took place in November 1938 as a reaction to a young jewish boy killing a Nazi Officer. It involved 3 days of brutal violence directed against the Jews across the whole country . It was the first goverment cordinated mass act of violence against the Jews. 100's of Jewish Synagogues were burned down.

-The Jews were also fined 1 billion marks for the damages commited against them in order to satisfy the insurance companies who did not want to pay for the damaged synagogues.

Nuremberg Laws

Definition

-The Nuremburg laws were passed in 1935

-stated that all Jews were to have their citizenship revoked and would only be known as subjects of the Reich

-Borrowed from VA laws which defined what a negro and an Indian were according to racial qualities

-It was 13 laws in total which functioned to take everything away from Jews

- One of these Laws was the Protection of Jewish Blood which outlawed marriage and sexual relations between Jews and Ariyans

Definition
- Any foreign Jew with German citizenship had their citizenship revoked including Jews who were naturalized as Germans in years before the law was passed

Definition

 

-Jews were forbiden from inheriting farm land passed down to them from their relatives.

-It was considered sort of a pointless law since most Jews did not own farms since they were not allowed to traditionally in the middle ages.

Definition

-He was the Chairman of the Wannsee Conference who pushed the system of extermination as the solution to the Jewish question

-He was also Deputy Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia where he was assasinated by a Chech with a grenade.

-He was also head of the Reich Main Security Office

- He was officially part of Jewish Affairs and expulsion office

-Pushed officials with Heydrich to all agree to the extermination plan.

The Wannsee Conference

Definition

 

 

-Decided that the best way to deal with the Jewish question was to exterminate all 11 million Jews in Germany and the eastern terrritories

-To do this they decided the most efficient way would be to set up death camps that soley functioned to kill Jews and dispose of their bodies using Zyclon B gas and massive furnnaces.

-25 officials from various different Reich departments involved with the Jews were present.

Albert Speer

Definition

-The personal Architect of Hitler he was later apointed head of the Todt organization after the Fritz Todt died in a plane crash

-Speer was so good at the job that he produced more planes at the end of the war then in the begining

-Albert Speer was only given 20 years because he took full responcibility for his actions and thus recieved a lesser sentence which was typical in US and English law.

Hermann Goring

Definition

-Second in command after Hitler with the officail title of Reichs Marshal

-He was pilot during WWI and was given several medals and honors for his service

-Became head of the Luftewaffe

-Collected art from all over the German conquered cities, confiscated many pieces from the Louvre, loved to dress in fancy uniforms, have exoctic pets, and frequently hunted.

-He personally ordered Reinhard Heydrich in charge of the Wannsee Conference

-He was addicted to morphine throughout his adult life and his adicction got particularly bad towards the end of the war

-Put on trail in Nuremberg where he often embarrssed the prosectution by calling them out on their false accusations as well as bringing up allied war crimes.

-He commited suicide in his cell during the Nuremburg trail when a friendly guard sliped him a synide tablet.
