Ilamic fundamentalist group Al Qaeda declared a jihad against the western world, in particular USA. A jihad is backed by fundamental religious ideologies - according to their beliefs, western culture is preventing them from achieving their own cultural and religious perfection. On September 11th 2001, Al Qaeda (headed by Osama Bin Laden) launched attack on the USA. 4 planes were hijacked,2 were flown into the WTC buildings, one into the Pentagon (4th unsuccessful). Outcomes: ~3000 deaths, initiated war on terror, economic plummet (18000 businesses destroyed).
