Definition
planters of the south. The dominance of aristocracy in the South widened the gap between the rich and poor because the aristocrats made all the decisions in their favor in government.

Named after King James. First permanent English settlement in the New World. Survived through a lot. It became successful when the residents of James Town developed tobacco.

Definition
Someone that had to pay for debts by working on plantations for tobacco crops. They would work until they payed off their debt.

Definition
The official church of a country or colony. In VA it was an Anglican church. Rhode Island doesn’t have an established church. PA didn’t either. They were supported by tax dollars. In many colonies yo needed to be a member of the church to be able to vote and run for governor.

Definition
1st true world war. It was a struggle for control for the French and Indian allies and the English and their Indian allies. After the peace treaty ending this war the English take over control in all French land in the Continental America.

Definition
Threw tea into harbor as they protest. England decided to make an example out of Boston by imposing the Intolerable Acts on them. Ships were not allowed to unload tea. Mobs wouldn’t let them unload the tea and sell it. They dealt with the people in Boston first.

Definition
Most objectionable act. Taxes on any legal document. To regulate trade they taxed things. Previous acts past by parliament had a purpose, but Stamp act had nothing to do with important things. They just did it to raise money. Legal or official documents you had to pay a fee to get stamped. Colonies objected by non importation agreements. They wanted the English to repeal the law.

Definition
For weeks in Boston there were incidents between people. The crowd that gathered called the British Soldiers names and threatened them. The Soldiers shot into the crowd. 4 or 5 people died. British people were surrounded by a crowd. Before they had been verbally harassed. British soldiers were in Boston to try to keep peace, but people got mad. Great deal of political mileage.

past by an English parliament that gave religious freedom for the people living in Quebec. The colonists objected because the colonists thought they were just trying to make sure Canada wasn’t joining rebuttle. They didn’t want to benefit Catholics.

First year of AR took place in North. After this 2-3 years of war took place in the middle colonies and towards the end of the war took place in the south. The American Revolution was the political upheaval during the last half of the 18th century in which thirteen colonies in North America joined together to break free from the British Empire, combining to become the United States of America.
