ROOSERVELT CONTINUED
Definition

1. Govenor of New York, easy win and knew how to controle the press.

2. He did not like how politics (such as Platt) and corporations were so closely tied together. 

3. More and more capital were merging.

4. Roosevelt was worried for the women, cowboys and immigrants in this type of enviorment.

5. He becomes Mc Kinley's Vice President, then Mc Kinley gets assasinated and Roosevelt becomes a two-term President. Hanna and Platt are not happy.

6. Roosevelt= was happy with conserving National Resources.

7. He wanted a Preportion Act and also be able to make national parks, so prior to signing it he put 17 million acres aside for parks.

8. Muler and Rooservelt- put Yosemite National Park for federal government and the dam could not be built in San Francisco yet.

9. Roosevelt= got right to the Awer's River that gave southern California a lot of its water.

Definition
 Building of the Panama Canal- shortens the trip to the U.S., bought  it off from the French for 40 million dollars. Columbia said no, but the people in Panama stages a Revolution against Columbia and became a republic, then the Canal is built. We lost the Canal on January 1, 2000.

Definition
Rooservelt wanted a balance in power, there was trade rivalry (1904-1905) Russia was not as advanced as Japan, so Roosevelt invites leaders from Japan and Russiato go to Ports Mountain New Hampshire and mediates the battle. Next year he wins The Noble Peace Prize, who is the first president to win that award.

1. Held the stock for several major railroads, Roosevelt did not like this.

2. J.P. Morgan wanted to fix it, Roosevelt won in 1904, winning 25 anti-trusts in The Sumpreme Court.

4. For the next election he hand-picked he sucessor, who was William Howard Taft, he was very different from Rooservelt. He was very large and slow, started selling off National

Park Land and Roosevelt decides to run again in 1912 as a third party (Progressive, Bull-Moose Party).

4. 1912, he was making a speech and someone shot him, his glasses make the bullet, leave the heart, he wanted to finish the speech, then go to the hospital.

5. He did not win the election, but takes votes away from Taft.

6. Den. Woodrow Wilson wins Presidency.

Definition

1. First President with a PH.D in Polititical Science.

2. Re-married Edith Gualt, did not have many male frieds and did not have close relationships with his cabinet.

3. In 1919- he had a stroke, he still survived, but his wife runs the Presidency.

Definition

1. Underwood- is the Simons Tarrif Act- lowered tariffs.

2. Federal Reserve Act Of 1913- had Federal Reserve System (President picked) and 12 reginol banks with Federal money. They set the interest to break the power of one bank.

3. Federal Trade Commission Act Of 1914- is when the FTCA gavewide investagory powers.

4. They could prosecute unfair trade patterns.

ROLES REVERSE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS
Definition

1. (Democrat) Woodrow Wilson- wanted new freedom, business and competition. He wanted to keep the Federal Government in check, more of a states person.

2. (Republican) Thedore Roosevelt- wanted a national approach.

3. Clayton- Anti-Trust Act- outlawed price discrimination, anything that could create a monopoly.

4. Appointed Branches- (People's Lawyers) to the Supreme Court. (Progressive)

5. Keating- own Child Labor Act 1916- did not want young children working, could only sell the goods and children made in that state, the owner will loose money if the owner did not stop using Child Labors.

6. Created an Adamson's Act- eight hour work day.

WHAT LEAD TO WORLD WAR 1? 1914-1918
Definition

1. Ten million dead, map of Europe re-written U.S. will be seen as the number one industrial country (power) in the world.

2. Little underlying, causes= Imperialism- Europe covering up Africa and seizing land, you could impse your government directly or indirectly (Puppet Leader) or economic support to win fascism.

3. Cape to Ciro railroad= would have went through all of Africa.

4.This leads to instability in Europe and Spain just had a little bit of Africa, French had a lot of Imperialism= instability.

5. Nationalism= countries saw themselves as superior than others= (Germany in Europe). They wanted to be Europe's Leaders.

Definition

1. Militarism- Queen Victoria had nine children, all had to marry to royals who were all relkated.

2. Kiser Wilhelm (Germany) product of the oldest daughter and her to throne, he is related to the Prince of Whales, Russia's Tsar Nicholast Alexander etc...

3. Kiser Wilhelm was born with a weak arm (birth defect), he was very weak, The Grandmother of Victoria did not like him. He was a bully and a brat. He became obsessed with England, take notice to him. As an adult he went to have a Great Navy. They developed the "U-Boat" or submarine, was the dedest weapon in the 40's.

4. Military appliances caused rivals within nations.

5. Russia modernized very slowly and had many csualties, by the end will have a Communist Revolution.

Definition

1. Austria-Hungary wanted to anex more land in their Empires. Serbia did not want that to happen.

2. Franz Ferdinand- hired to Austria and his wife wasn sent to the city of Sarajevo. To wave and win people over to be anexed to them.

3. The Bank Hand- terrorist group in Sarajevo, Gaurilla Principal (leader) first threw a bomb,does not work, The Duke continues with his trip.

4. The Lost Motor Cade go out and they both get shot killed, did not remain localized because of Austria-Hungary called Germany their alliance.

Germany sees this at war where they can come out ahead. Serbia is scared and calls Russia, Russia will help and then they need help and call France, by August 4th England comes in to call Germany to back down, war begins in Europe.

Definition

1. What was it? a smoke screen across France's Border, then attack from behind through Belgum.

2. They thaugt it woul take two days, but it really took 6 weeks to get through Belgum. Slavs Germany down and allowed for 350000 British Expeditionary forces to land inFrance. Western Front= Trench Warfare.

3. Eastern Front= more Conventional Active Warfare.

4. Belgum fighting to the last man and German fighting dirty was the first reason why U.S.A. is starting to give in to; the war.

Definition

1. Germany soldiers with French and British solders, believed it would be over by Christmas.

2. All of a sudden they all started dancing and playing football in No Man's Land to celebrate Christmas. This fun could have been over.

3. Now even on holidays firing arms will have to go on; No fraternization.

1. Submarine Warfare- filled within the Englanos water, trading water within the U.S.A., we do not know where the submarines are.

2. In April, 1915, Ypres trenches built, Germany used Chemical Warfare, the gasses went all the way in the trenches and the men had their reproductive tronks burned alive.

3. Gases and gas masks are now being developed. Twelve hundred people died, ten percent on board were American.

Definition

1. Loosing about a million men a year.

2. Czar Nicolis, nice guy, but a terrible leader, because of in breeding through famlies, their son had Hemophelia.

3. Nicolis is at home too much, not supporting the country.

4. Lenin- a leader of the Bolshavicks, he is living in exile in Sweden, if he gets home he will take Russia out of war. Germany sends Lenin back and the Bolshaviks win their revolution and Russia and it's satalites became U.S.S.R., Commission, Russia is out of the war.

4. U.S.A. does not want Germany to win the war.

5. Feburary 25th, 1917- Zimmerman Telegraph- written by Author Zimmerman, German Secretary to Government of Mexico, asking them to come into war on their side and when theyn win all the land (Mexico) lost to the U.S.A. will put back to them. England intersepted this and quoted by saying "Is it fake" and told Wilson the U.S.A. April 6,1917 Wilson decides America needed to join the war to keep democracy safe.

Definition

1. How was it prepared? Training and Committee on Public Information.

2. War Industry Board and War Labor Board needed to move the Public Line Committee of Public Information- stops displaying gorry information, and create an enemy. Germany was being fired, Germany were stopped being taugt in schools, and they created an internal threat (German Spies) in the U.S.A.

3. Ratial profiling could not happen- Germans looked like U.S.A.

4. War Industry Board- Peace Time Industry to war there.

5. Industry- Military Preperation Labor- woman take over, nurses etc..., a very female world- helps with the 19th Amendment= which is right for females to vote.

6. War Labor Board- five members who sucessfully mediated potential labor strikes, no strikes to place. (good jobs)

7. Herber Hoover= has to tell everyone they have to give up food and gasoline- Sundays no gas, they had to send things over to war, many planted gardens for themselves, "Victory Gardens".

8. Draft Begins- Selective Service Act, notified in 1918- every male from 18-45. 24 million men drafted. Most wanted to go. New blood, energy to the trenches, they coul relieve the French and the British. By 1918 all action go to the boarder, Belleau Wood and Chateau Theory American Victory, of Summer of 1918 we wanted to get to Sedan (German's Communication), by November 11th, 1918 at 11:00, we defeated Sedan and won the war.

Definition

1. Peace Treaty "Treaty Of Versailles" Wilson did most of the communication, Germany is not invited to attend, which began World War 2. Wilson wanted to free diplomicy for everyone.

2. League of Nations= United Nations

3. France was mad- everything was strained and many men died. They want repatriations, the country that caused the war would pay for it. England wanted to demiliterize Germany.

4. Countries re-stored to original boundries at Austria-Hungary, who annesed many, all cuntries had many German people, could have led to World War 2. Germany faced to sign clause 231- all blame on Germany.
