Definition
U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward signs a treaty with Russia for the purchase of Alaska for $7.2 million in 1867 under President Andrew Johnson. This was thought as a bad deal but turned positive b/c natural resources(gold) and size increase.

A zone that Theodore Roosevelt wanted from Columbia but was too expensive, so he funded a revolution against them and Panama gained their independence in November 1903 and sold the Canal to the U.S. in Feb. 1904 for 10 million.

Programs Included: The Tennessee Valley Authority Act, the end of Prohibition, National Industrial Recovery Act, Public Works Administration, Agricultural Adjustment Act. In 1935 the second new deal was launched to continue the fight against the Depression, this included the Works Progress Administration (WPA), Social Security Act
