Cutaneous veins are Cephalic (radial side) and Basilic (Ulnar side)
Term
Sensation to dorsum of hand => ?
Definition
Radial Nerve (radial side) and Ulnar nerve (ulnar side)
Term
These 2 nerves supply the extrinsic and intrinsic muscles of hand
Definition
Ulnar and Median nerves
Term
Sensation of palm => ?
Definition
Median nerve (Thumb + 2.5)
Ulnar nerve (pinky + half of ring finger)
Term
The arterial supply of the hand and digits
Definition
Radial and Ulnar Arteries
Term
Articulation b/w wrist and hand proper bone
Definition
CarpoMetacarpal joints
Carpi = wrist
metacarpal = bone from wrist to knuckles.
Thumb Carpometacarpal joint is the only moveable
Term
Thumb vs. finger phalanges
Definition
Thumb has 2 - proximal and distal
Each finger has 3 - P, Middle, D
Term
PIP and DIP joints are ...joints and allow for ......and ......... of digits
Definition
hinge joints
flexion/extension
Term
MCP joints are .....joints and allow for these 4 motions
Definition
Condyloid joints (knuckles)
Flexion/Extension and Abduction/Adduction
Term
1st Carpometacarpal joint is at the base of the thumb and is a .....joint that allow for thumbs' .....
Definition
Saddle joint b/w Trapezium and Base of 1st metacarpal (knuckle)
Opposition
Term
Thenar and Hypothenar eminences
Definition
Thenar - lateral to thumb, intrinsic thumb muscles
Hypothenar - medial to pinky, intrinsic pinky muscles
Term
Extrinsic vs Intrinsic muscles of hand
Definition
Extrinsic - muscles of hand that came from forearm
Intrinsic - muscles of hand that originated from hand
Term
Extrinsic Flexor muscles of Hand
Definition
Flexors:
F. Digitorum Superficialis
F. Digitorum Profundus
F. Pollicis Longus
Term
Extrinsic Extensor muscles
Definition

Extend MCP joint (lift finger up) Extensor Digitorum Extensor Indices Extensor Digiti Minimi (V) Extensor Pollicis Brevis Extensor Pollicis Longus Abductor Pollicis Longus

For the extrinsic thumb muscles (last 3) think about the 3 tendons of the snuff box

Term
FLEXOR DIGITORUM SUPERFICIALIS
insertion?
action?
innervation?
Definition
Insert onto MIDDLE Phalanx of each FINGER (not thumb!)
Flexes PIP joint
Median Nerve
Term
Intrinsic Muscles of Hand (Thenar) Thenar = Palm near thumb Pollicis = Thumb
Definition

Only in hand! Flexor Pollicis Brevis Abductor Pollicis Brevis Opponens Pollicis MEDIAN NERVE

Mnemonic for the INTRINSIC Thenar and Hypothenar muscles:

AFO = All For Obama = Abductor, Flexor, Opponens

Term
Intrinsic Muscles of Hand (Hypothenar) Hypothenar = Palm near Pinky Minimi = pinky
Definition

Abductor Digiti Minimi, Flexor Digiti Minimi, Opponens Digiti Minimi (not saddle, doesn't oppose)

ULNAR NERVE

Mnemonic for the INTRINSIC Thenar and Hypothenar muscles:

AFO = All For Obama = Abductor, Flexor, Opponens

Term
Intrinsic Hand Muscles - what adducts the thumb. Nerve?
Definition
Adductor pollicis
ULNAR NERVE
Term
More intrinsic muscles:
Lumbricals
Action and Nerves?
Definition
4 of them for each finger
Flex MCP joint
Extend IP joints (PIP, DIP)
Median n (index,middle) Ulnar n (ring, pinky)
Term
Last group of Intrinsic hand muscles...
Definition
Interossei muscles - 4 Dorsal and 3 Palmar
Primary FLEXORS of MCP joint
Term
Palmar Interossei muscles
Definition
Flexes MCP joint AND Adducts MCP joint of fingers TOWARDS middle finger (2nd finger)
Ulnar Nerve (C8,T1)
Term
Dorsal Interossei muscles
Definition
Flexes MCP joint AND Abducts MCP joints of fingers 1,2,3 (pinky has abductor digiti minimi)
Ulnar Nerve (C8,T1)
Term
Extensor Hood
Definition
Binds Extensor Digitorum to MCP joint
Extensor Digitorum, E. D. Indices and Minimi act on MCP joints!
Term
Central Band
Definition
Acts on Proximal Interphalangeal Joint (PIP)
Term
Lateral Bands (notice plural)
Definition
Act on Distal IP joint
Term
Lumbricals (precise GRIP)
Definition
From the Flexor digitorum Profundus tendon
Flex MCP joint AND Extend IP joints
Median (1/2 finger)
Ulnar n (3/4)
Term
Interossei muscles
Definition

Flex MCP joint

Abduct (dorsal) or Adduct (palmar) MCP joints of FINGERS

Nerve: Ulnar Nerve (mainly C8, and T1)

Term
If middle finger (2nd finger) moves right or left it is being ...
Definition
ABDUCTED.
Middle finger is Abducted in ANY direction b/c the center of the hand is the middle finger!
It has 2 dorsal interossei. If it goes towards the index, the lateral dorsal interossei is working and if it's going towards the ring finger, the medial dorsal interossei of the middle finger is used...all to ABDUCT!
Term
Radial Nerve
Definition
C6 dermatome
Dorsal hand and thumb
Term
Median Nerve
Definition

C6-7 Dermatome Lateral Palm, Thumb, 2.5 digits

C8 Myotome, Motor to:

Thenar muscles

1st 2 lumbricals

All 4 Flexor Digitorum Superficialis

1st 2 Flexor Digitorum Profundi

Term
Ulnar nerve
Definition

C8 Dermatome Ulnar side - pinky and half of middle finger (1.5 fingers from ulnar side)

C8 Myotome

Hypothenar m.m. (AFO), interossei (ALL of THEM; palmar and dorsal), adductor policis, and lumbricals of 3rd and 4th finger

Term
Superficial Palmar Arch
Definition
Anastomoses b/w the Superficial branches of the Radial and Ulnar arteries
Ulnar Superficial branch "dominates" (large)
