Definition

Etitology : Distemper virus

Route of Trans: Dog to Dog, Nasal secretions - aerosol

Clinical Signs: Upper Respritory, Coughing, Vomiting, Diarrhea,      Neurological symptoms( seizures and ataxia)

Treatment: None, Supportive Care only

 

Prevention: Vaccination (highly effective) and isolation

 

Extra Facts: Can make dogs have extremely hard pads, there is no test that correctly diagnoses Distemper.

Definition

Etiology: Adenovirus CAV-1

Route of Trans:Dog to Dog, Saliva and Nasal Secretions

Clinical Signs:Fever, Loss of appetite, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Prolonged Bleeding

Treatment:Supportive only

Prevention: Vaccination

Extra Facts: inflamation of the liver, prolonged bleeding b/c liver isn't making clotting factors correctly

Definition

Etiology: Spirochete Bacteria

Route of Trans: Dog to Dog, Indirect thru environment (warm slow moving water)                                                                            Clinical Signs: Muscel Stiffness, Fever, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Kidney/Liver Failure

Treatment: antibiotics(doesn't reverse damage done to kidney/liver), supportive

Definition

Etiology: Bordetella = Bacteria, Parainfluenza = virus

Route of Trans: Dog to Dog, Aerosol                                                   Clinical Signs: Coughing, Mild Fever, Nasal Discharge                         Treatment: Antibiotics, cough suppressants                                     Prevention:  Isolation, Vaccination (injectable, intranasal)                             Extra Facts: Injectable --> takes 2 doses, 2 weeks, blood stream           .                  Internasal--> Takes 1 dose, 24-36 hours, mucosal immun.

Definition

Etiology: parvovirus

Route of Trans: Oral, ingestion of infected feces, Contaminated environment                                                                                         Clinical Signs: Depression/Lethargy, Vomiting/Diarrhea(distinct odor,bloody), Dehydration, Low white blood cell count                         Treatment: supportive only, prevent dehydration                               Prevention: Isolation, Vaccination                                                           Extra Facts: High mortality, 50% death
