Definition

Origin: Inf. 2/3 of post. surface of fibula; inf. part fo IM.

Insertion: Base of distal phalanx of great toe.

Action: Flexion of great toe at all joints; weak plantarflexion; supports med. longitudinal arch.

Innervation: Tibial n. (S2, S3).

Blood: Post. tibial a.

Popliteus

Definition

Origin: Lat. surface of lat. condyle of femur and lat. meniscus.

Insertion: Post. surface of tibia, sup. to soleal line.

Action: Weak flexion of leg; unlocks knee by rotating femur 5 degrees on fixed tibia; medially rotates tibia of unplanted limb.

Innervation: Tibial n. (L4, L5, S1).

Flexor Digitorum Longus

Definition

Origin: Med. part of post. surface of tibia inf. to soleal line; by a broad tendon to fibula.

Insertion: Base of distal phalanges of lat. 4 digits.

Action: Flexion of lat. 4 digits; plantarflexion; supports longitudinal arches.

Innervation: Tibial n. (S2, S3).

Blood: Post. tibial a.

Definition

Origin: IM; post. surface of tibia inf. to soleal line; post. surface of fibula.

Insertion: Tuberosity of navicular, cuneiform, cuboid, sustentaculum tali and bases of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsals.

Action: Plantarflexion and inversion.

Innervation: Tibial n. (S2, S3)
