Myeloblast

*Large round to oval cel with a round to oval nucleus

*Finely stippled chromatin pattern 

*prominent nucleolus or multiple nucleoli

*small to moderate amount of blue cytoplasm and no prominent cytoplasmic granules

Promyelocyte (AKA) Progranulocyte

*large, round to oval cell with a round to oval nucleus

*nuclear chromatin pattern is finely granular

*nucleoli may or may not be present

*perinuclear clear zone is often present 

*The moderate amount of cytoplasm is blue and contains multiple, pink to purple granules

Myelocyte

**Where the cell becomes a specified cell type**

(neutorphil, eosinophil, basophil)

*Round cell that is smaller then myeloblast and progranulocyte

*chromatin is finley to moderatly granular

*nucleoli are not present

*blue cytoplasm contains pink (neutrophils), reddish(eosinophils), or purple granules (basophils)

Metamyelocyte

*juvenile cell*

*Round cell with a kidney-shaped nucleus

*chromatin is moderatly granular and more condensed then the myelocyte

*blue cytoplasm contains hard to see secondary granules

Band cell (AKA) Staff or Stab cell

*round cell with a horseshoe shaped nucleus

*cytoplasm is blue to light blue and contains secondary granules

*secondary granules

Segmented Cell

*mature cell*

*small round cell with a single nucleus

*multiple segmentations

*nuclear chromatin is very condensed

*moderate amount of light blue to pink cytoplasm
