Additional Anatomy Flashcards

Cards

Term
Anatomy
Definition
Study of the form or structure and arrangment of the body parts and their relationship
Term
Physiology
Definition
the study of the function of the body parts or structures and their relationship in maintaining life processes
Term
Structural organization
Definition

there are six levels

. Chemical level

. Cellular level

. Tissue level

.Organ level

Organ system level

. Organismal level

Term
Chemical Level
Definition

the simplest level and it includes all of the chemical substances essential for maintaining life

these substance made up of atoms

Term
Atom
Definition
the smallest unit of matter
Term
Matter
Definition
anything that takes up space and has mass
Term
Molecules
Definition

.atoms combine to form____

. Which may be simple or complex

Term
Organelles
Definition

.Different types of molecules combine to form_____

"little organ"

. are specific structure that carry out specifuc function.

Term
Cellular level
Definition

____is the basic unit of structure and function and of life

_____ vary in size, shape, and function, and may contain many tupes of organelles

Term

tissue level

Definition

are the groups of similar cells that perform a specific function.

Four major types of tissue

epithelial tissue

connective tissue

muscle tissue

nervous tissue

Term
epithelial tissue
Definition

It is found lining body cavities and cover the surface of the  body.

It functions in protection, secretion, and excretion.

Term
connective tissue
Definition
It is found on the surface of and in organs and tissues and functions in protection, support, and attaching organs and tissues to each other and the walls of body cavities.
Term
muscle tissue
Definition

It functions in the movement of body parts and organs, and in the movement of substances throughout the body.

There are three major types co musle tissue

Skeletal muscle

Cardiac muscle

Smooth muscle

Term
Skeletal muscle
Definition
It is found attached to and covering bones. It functions in body movement
Term
Cardiac muscle
Definition
It is located in the heart wall. It functions in the contraction and relaxation of the heart as it beats
Term
Smooth muscle
Definition
It is located in the wall of the internal and visceral organs. It functions in moving substance throughout the body
Term
nervous tissue
Definition
It is located in the brain and spinal cord, and extend to various tissues and organs. It functions in transmitting electrical or nerve impulses from external and internal environments to the brain and spinal cord where it is interpreted and a response occurs
Term
organ level
Definition
are groups of two or more types of tissue working together to perform a specific function
Term
organ system level
Definition

are groups of organs that work closely together to perform a common function.

There are eleven organ systems

Integumentary system, Muscular system, Skeletal system, Nervous system, Endocrine system, Cardiovascular system, Lymphatic system, Respiratory system, Digestive system, Urinary system, Reproductive system.

Term
organismal level
Definition
the highest level of structural organizarion and it consists of groups of organ systems working together to maintain the body structure and function.
Term
homeostasis
Definition

Organ system work together to maintain internal environment that is faily constant , stable, and balanced

"to stay the same". Change does occur, but within verry narrow range of limit

Term
Survival need
Definition

Water-necessary for chemical reaction and excretion and secretion, oxygen-require metabolic reaction that break down nutrients and provide energy,nutrients-provide energy for cells and cell processes, appropriate body temperature-must be maintained within certain range for chemical reaction and cell processes perform effeciently(if the body temperature falls too slow or increases to high, the chemical reaction will slow down or may stop, atmospheric pressure-the force of air on the body surface by the weight of air

It is important in breathing and exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs

Term

Control Mechanism

Definition

consists three parts

receptor

control center

effector

Term
receptor
Definition
it responde to sentory stimuli from the internal and external environment. The information sent along afferent pathways to control center
Term
control center
Definition
it consists of the brain and spinal cord which interpret and analyze the information and determine an appropriate response. The information is sent along efferent pathways to the effector
Term
effector
Definition
It consist of tissue, organs, and gland that perform a motor response to the original stimulus that was received by receptor.
Term
Feedfack mechanism
Definition

If response slown down or inhibit the stimulus, it is negative feedback mechanism.

If response speeds up or enhances the stimulus, it is positive feedback mechanism.

Most control mechanisms for homeostasis in the human body are negative feedback mechanism
