Diamond's thesis solely on luck?
Definition
Basically yes, for although he does account for some extraneous variables of human genius, his thesis is all about the luck of a good geographic location. If you have a temperate environment, with good resources, and are surrounded by water: you were bound to be successful. Period.

Geographic location definitely impacted the superpowers in our world. The better environment, location, and resources, the better off a society was.
-But geography is becoming less and less important as gov't becomes more and more. Rather than physical location, if this big brother restrains a country from trading, having freedom, etc it freezes the country's global growth. The freer our global market becomes, the more opportunity everyone has. If someone has access to the internet, they have the ultimate opportunity for success.
