Definition
Took place in 1948. The Soviet response to the British, French, and Americans planning to unify their sections of Germany and create a West German federal government. Prohibited vehicles from entering the three western zones of Berlin. The Soviets hoped to secure economic control of all Berlin and halt the creation of a separate West German state.

Definition
The Western powers' response to the blockade of Berlin. Thousands of tons of supplies were flown into he city every day.

Definition
Occured in 1962. Almost led to nuclear war. President Kennedy demanded that Premier Krushchev remove nuclear missles that the Soviets had installed in Cuba. The confrontation ended when the bases were dismantled.

A large-scale immigration of a group of individuals with technical skill or knowledge. A brain drain in Eastern Europe led to the construction of the Berlin Wall.
