Term
Coracobrachialis
Definition
O: Coracoid Process of Scapula
I: Medial surface of humerus proximal to middle of shaft.
Inn: Musculocutaneous nerve
Action: Flexor and weak adductor of humerus
Term
Brachialis
Definition
O: Lower 1/2 of anterior surface of humerus. Medial and lateral intermuscular septum.
I: Ulnar tuberosity; Coronoid process.
Inn: Musculocutaneous nerve
Action: Flexes forearm
Term
Biceps Brachii
Definition
O: (short head) Corocoid process of scapula
(Long head) Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Inn: Musculocutaneous nerve
Action: Flexes and supinates forearm; flexes humerus
Term
Triceps Brachii
Definition
O:(Long head) Infraglenoid tubercle of scapula. (Lateral Head) Posterior and lateral surfaces of humerus. (Medial Head) Posterior surface of humerus inferior to radial groove.
I: Olecranon; deep fascia of forearm.
Inn: Radial Nerve
Action: Extensor of forearm; extends and adducts humerus
Term
Anconeus
Definition
O: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
I: Olecranon; posterior surface of ulna
Inn: Radial nerve
Action: Extends forearm
Term
Pectoralis Major
Definition
O: (Clavicular Portion) Medial half of anterior surface of clavicle. (Sternocostal Portion) Anterior surface of manubrium and body of sternum; costal cartilage of ribs 2-6
I: Lateral lip of intertubercular (bicipital) groove (AKA crest of greater tubercle)
Inn: Lateral and Medial Pectoral nerves
Action: Adducts arm, draws shoulder forward and medially; rotates arm medially against resistance.
(Clavicular Portion): flexes Humerus
(Sternocostal portion): Extends humerus from flexed position
Term
Pectoralis Minor
Definition
O: Outer surface of ribs 3-5
I: Medial border of upper surface of coracoid process.
Inn: Medial Pextoral nerve
Action: Depressor and downward rotator of the scapula.
Term
Subclavius
Definition
O: Upper border of first rib and its costal cartilage
I: Inferior surface of clavicle
Inn: Nerve to subclavius
Action: Draws clavicle downward and forward
Term
Serratus Anterior
Definition
O: Outer surfaces of ribs 1-9
I: Medial (vertebral) border of anterior surface of scapula
Inn: Long Thoracic nerve
Action: Protracts scapula; holds scapula against posterior thoracic wall preventing "winging"; assists in upward rotation of scapula
