Aristocrats owned horses, chariots, and the best weapons. Commoners just had to do what they were told, no thinking. Everybody got richer because of development and trade.

City-states became richer. More freedom for commoners, kind tyrants who represent out interests well. Could be better than the king and had the respect of people to get there (not born into ruling at first). Sometimes they made changes for the better. Better military because they had swords, spears, etc.

Fair for all citizens. Canceled all debt or money owed to other people. Citizens govern themselves. Citizens interests are represented by rulers. Laws were changed for the better. Freed wrongly enslaved and imprisoned people.

What are the detriments of Aristocracy?
Definition
They made decisions in their own self-interest. Controlled commoners, kept rebellion down. Inherited power, didn't earn it. Lived off the work of the people. No power for merchants in decision making. Nobles had a better life than others, not a fair distribution. Lived at the will of the aristocrats. Commoners had no say in who led. Kings may not have experience and may not be effective leaders.

Definition
Tyrants are hard to remove once in. Took power by force. Cruel. Not everybody gets to choose, no say. Unstable because you don't know who will lead next. They could put people in jail. They could rule better. They could take away rights.

Only men can be citizens.. Only 1 in 5 men were citizens. Some people were slaves.
