The Apical may be faster than the radial because of a slight lag in time as the blood rushes from the heart into the large arteries where it can be palpated.

  1. Wrap Blood pressure cuff around ones arm with tube running down the brachial artery
  2. Palpate the Brachial artery
  3. Inflate the cuff to 160
  4. Release the pressure valve and listen for the first soft thudding sound. Thats systolic
  5. Listen for when the sound increases then gets muffled then stops. That's diastolic.
