Definition

*Felt very important, but thought George Washing was 'stealing his spotlight'

*He was stationed by GW at West Point, a fort in the middle of the woods

*Was in serious debt, so when British offered him money for West Point, he agreed
*Patriot army found out and GW ordered him to be hanged; he had to flee for his life and ended up joining the British army

*"Common Sense"-written to convince colonists to reject the king (he is no more worthy of praise than we are, we owe him nothing, he can't rule properly from so many miles away)

*"The Crisis"- written to convince colonists to donate supplies to the patriot army, and, for soldiers already enlisted, to not desert the army
