Why did Europeans go to North America
Definition
15th century: many Europeans travelled the world. The vikings tried to go to iceland and Christinize the eskimos. Settlements were not permanent because the indiginous did not want to be changed and resources were going scarce.

16th century: many negatted the world, since they though that boats would sail off the earth. Leaders began to want to enhance their power by colonization and control natural resources (like gold and silver).

20,000 years ago climate (glaciers) were covering a lot of the world and ice bridges formed connecting Syberia to Alaska. Napolean Indians were the first to step foot on North America. These people crossed this bridge to help with survival. Wars, better climate, getting away from diseases or just exploring may have been motives for coming to North America.

What were the native American beliefs and values?
Definition
Most practiced Animism: all living things had a spirit, a power, ad strength. Humans were only one aspect of life on earth. Native Americans did kill animals but had a respect and kept a balance. There were tribes including a nuclear and extended families which had chiefs and other leaders.

No one owned anything. They wondered and followed nature. 12,000 years ago global waarming started which allowed people to move around more and allowed some people to stay in one place and become famrers of corn (maze)

Europeans wanted to control the most land so they could make money and own things. They travelled in nuclear families where the man was the leader. Values (christianity) could spread through the world

Definition
The Africans came to North America by ship in slave trade. Many Africans died because they were chained and not fed. once there, they were auctioned off

Definition
Africans were farmers and fishermen in tribes. Tribes included family and more. Knowledge of the outside world were not known in West Africa. They practiced Animism (like the Native Americans) and believed in in the important and respected all living things. Females cared for the children and males went out and hunted

Definition
RELIGION: In order to cope, christian religeon and going to church every Sunday gave them strength

FAMILY: families tried to stay together but, many times, family members were sold which broke up te family. So Africans considered friends as their family, since family by blood wasn't possible

SOLIDARITY: working alone was harder, so great support came by friendships made during work

John Winthrop led the puritans to Massachusetts created a sef-governing colony. Education for males and females was important. Strict laws were set to follow the puritain faith.

Ex) Sunday was a holiday and the only thing you could do is eat and go to church, anything else would be fined (no gardening, no public display of affection)
