DEFINE the mission of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1).

Definition

The mission of MAWTS-1 is to provide standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications that support the Marine Aviation Training and Readiness (T&R) Program. MAWTS-1 accomplishes this by conducting the twice-annual Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and Supplementary Courses of Instruction as directed.

MAWTS-1 also provides assistance in the development and employment of aviation weapons and tactics.

Definition
The primary responsibility of Marine commanders is combat readiness. The WTTP supports individual and unit combat readiness by tasking MAWTS-1 to train Officer and Enlisted instructors to manage unit aviation training programs, develop aviation supplementary courses of instruction, standardize unit instructor certification programs, and develop and distribute academic courseware that supports the 2000, 3000, and 4000 phases of the Marine Aviation T&R Program.

Definition

The Squadron/Unit COs shall ensure a professionally managed WTTP is conducted that supports the unit's Mission, Mission Essential Task List, and T&R syllabus. Additional responsibilities are:

  • Nominate qualified Officer and Enlisted PWTIs.
  • Assign Officer/Enlisted WTIs to each unit WTI T/O billet.
  • Select candidates for unit instructor certifications.
  • Authorize MAWTS-1 Officer aircrew to act as Pilot in Command and Mission Commanders.

Identify the responsibilities of the MAWTS-1 CO

  • Conduct two resident WTI Courses annually
  • Conduct aviation and ground safety courses during each WTI class
  • Conduct instructor certifications
  • Conduct appropriate supplementary courses of instruction
  • Serve as the syllabus sponsor for all Marine Aviation T&R Program manuals
  • Assist with the development and editing of Marine Aviation doctrinal publications

IDENTIFY the responsibilities of the Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTIs) within the Weapons and Tactics Training Program (WTTP).

Definition

As the unit’s training Officer, each WTI shall develop and execute a training program in accordance with the WTTP that supports the CO’s training guidance. Training includes individual T&R training and collective operational unit training.

WTIs shall:

  • Serve as the unit SME for mission planning, briefing/debriefing, threat systems, and unit weapons system employment.

  • Recommend the most qualified personnel for nomination to the WTI Course.

  • Ensure all training conducted under your supervision adheres to established training standards, safety, and ORM procedures.
