Adjectives that describe a masculine noun usually end in an "o" (alto, guapo, atlético, etc.), whereas adjectives describing a feminine noun generally end in an "a" (alta, guapa , atlética, etc.). Those adjectives which end in an "e" can describe either masculine nouns or feminine nouns (inteligente).

Remember that masculine nouns are preceded by the article el and feminine nouns by la.
