Term
[image]Transcription
Definition
Transcription is the process that involves transcribing the genetic information from DNA to RNA. It basically just rewrites the DNA codes into RNA codes.
Term
[image]Translation
Definition
Translation is when it occurs when the mRNA strand moves out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm. Then at that point mRNA,rRNA and the tRNA all comes together as one. It is also the synthesis of a single protein from a mRNA template. It is also when RNA is transformed into protein inside of the cytoplasm.
Term
[image]mRNA
Definition
One strand of mRNA is produced during the transcription process. It is transcribed from DNA, which carries information for protein synthesis. This relates to transcription and translation because mRNA is tranported to the cytoplasm and rewritten to make the correct amino acid inside of a protein.
Term
[image]Codon
Definition
Codon is a sequence of three nucleotides, constituting the genetic code that determines the insertion of a specific amino acid, which is in a polypeptide chain. It happens during the protein synthesis process or the signal to stop the protein synthesis. This is related to transcription and translation because it is the strating point at the beginning process of translation.
Term
[image]Anticodon
Definition
Anticodon is kind of the same as codon, but it transfers RNA that binds to a codon that is corresponding in the messenger RNA, it also designates a certain amino acid during protein synthesis.
Term
[image]tRNA
Definition
tRNA transfers a specific amino acids from one end point to the other in order for it to be reconized as which amino acid that is going to be added to the protein chain. It is related to translation because it is one of the steps that happens in the decodeing process of RNA into proteins.
Term
[image]Ribosome
Definition
Ribosomes are small particulars that are composed of RNA and protein, which is normally found in the cytoplasm of living cells. It also serves as like a cite of assembly for the polypeptides that are encoded by the messengers RNA. This is related to transcription and tranlation because it is the organelle in which translation happens.
Term
[image]Amino Acid
Definition
Amino acid are an organic compound that contains an amino, carboxylic acid group, and also any side groups. The building blocks from proteins are constructed from the alpha-amino acids. This is related to transcription and translation because when the mRNA is translated to the amino acids, the three nucleotides of an RNA codefor one of the amino acids.
Term
[image]Uracil
Definition
Uracil is a pyrimidine base, which is an essential constituent of RNA. It is present in all living cells and it base pairs with adenine. I think this is related to transcription and translation because during the RNA base pairing process the uracil replaces the thymine base.
Term
[image]Base Pairing
Definition
Base pairing is when one purine and one pyrimidine is paired together. Adenine is a purine paired with the pyrimidine thymine, then the purine guanine paired with the pyrimidine cytosine. This is related to transcription and translation because without the two purines and two prymidines being paired in the one to one ratio then the DNA being recoded into RNA and RNA being rewritten into proteins would not happen.
Term
[image]"Protein"
Definition
Protein usually contains carbon, oxygen, etc. which are normally composed of either one or more amino acid chains. They are one of the important components of living cells. It is related to transcription and translation because when the translation process happens RNA is decoded and written into a protein.
Term
[image]Nucleus
Definition
Nucleus is like the central core unit in a cell because all of the other organelles gather around it. It relates to transcription and translation because when the DNA is rewritten into RNA it happens inside of the nucleus.
Term
[image]Cytoplasm
Definition
This is a gel like substance that the protoplasm outside of the nucleus of cells, which is located inside of the membrane but outside of the nucleus. It relates to transcription and translation because when RNA is decoded into proteins that process happens inside of the cytoplasm.
Term
[image]3 Differences Between DNA and RNA
Definition
RNA is made up of one single stranded molecule, the complementary base is Adenine and not Thymine, and the last reason is that RNA does not contain deoxyribose because it is made of ribose.
Term
[image]Purpose of Transcription
Definition
Makes copies of RNA and turn it into protein.
Term
[image]Purpose of Translation
Definition
Translation is the process in which ribosomes read RNA strands and use their sequences in order to create a new protein by combining different types of amino acids.
Term
[image]Product of Transcription
Definition
The final product of transcription usually happens when the RNA polymerase strand reaches a stopping sequence. It can also be when the RNA transcript forms into either RNA, mRNA, tRNA, rRNA, etc.
Term
[image]Product of Translation
Definition
The final product of translation are proteins.
Term
[image]Mutation
Definition
The process for mutation can come from the DNA strands being damaged from environmental agents like the sunshine because of it u.v lights, radiation, etc.
Term
[image]Nucleotide
Definition
This consists of any nucleoside combined with a phosphate group and forms a basic constituent of the DNA and RNA strands.
