A cultural movement. It began among urban African Americans and Latinos in the Bronx at about 1974. It has since spread across the world and has become a dominant force in popular culture. 3 elements are breakdancing, rapping, and graffiti writing. However, Hip-Hop contains other elements including fashion, double dutch jump rope, and political activism.

This term is important because rap music draws on many musical and cultural elements from the Afro Diaspora and has become an important force within the Afro Diaspora today.
