Term
What settings are found under Virtual Machine Options?
Definition
General options, vApp Options, VMware Tools, Power management
Term
What settings are found under Advanced Virtual Machine Options?
Definition
General, CPUID Mask, Memory/CPU Hotplug, Boot Options, Fibre Channel NPIV, CPU/MMU Virtualization, Swapfile Location, SDRS Rules
Term
Describe the General Options under 'Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
* Modify VM Name
* Check vmx location as well as working location
* Change Guest OS type (must be powered off)
Term
Describe the vApp Options under 'Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
* Enable or disable vApp functionality - IP Allocation policies, etc.
* Product information
* Properties
* OVF settings specific to the vApp
Term
Describe the VMware Tools Options under 'Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
*Manage power controls for the VM - VM must be powered off: stop (Power off, shutdown guest (default); Pause - suspend; Start (Power on/resume); Restart - reset, restart guest (default)
* run VMware Tools scripts - VM must be powered off
* Automatic updates, synchronize time with host
Term
Describe the Power Management options under 'Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
* How should the VM respond when OS is placed in standby.. Options are to suspend the VM or put the guest OS into standby and leave the VM powered on
Term
Describe the General options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
*Disable Acceleration - used to allow a VM to successfully run or install software. Used if you see an issue which causes the VM to stop responding early in the execution of a program. This setting slows down the VM.
* Enable/Disable Logging
*Debug Stats: Run normal (default - collects bug info; Record debugging Information - collects debug and performance info. use to aid in TS when guest OS is crashing frequently; Record statistics)
*Some advanced config parameters
Term
Describe the CPUID Mask options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
Used to expose or hide nx/xd flags from the VM in order to increase vMotion compatibility
Term
Describe the Boot options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
* Specify boot firmware (BIOS/EFI)
* Power on Boot delay
* Force into bios on next boot
* Failed Boot Recovery - automatically retries a reboot if it fails
Term
Describe the Fibre Channel NPIV options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
* Enable/Disable NPIV and assign and generate new WWNs for the VM
* Allows you to share a physical hba port amongst multiple virtual ports in efforts to give the VM access to LUNs on a per VM basis
* Each virtual port is assigned a WWPN and a WWNN
* NPIV needs to be enabled on a SAN switch and supported only for VMs with RDMs
* Each VM can only have 4 NPIV WWNs
Term
Describe the CPU/MMU Virtualization options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
Allows you to override the hardware page table settings
Term
Describe the Swap file location options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
*Store with the VM
*Store with the hosts swap file datastore
Term
Describe the SDRS Rules options under 'Advanced Virtual Machine Options'
Definition
*Set affinity rules for virtual disks within a datastore cluster
