Patient comes in w/ presentation of analgesia (usually 1 or 2 segments BELOW the lesion) on one side of the trink/limb, location of lesion is CONTRALATERAL side of the brain stem or spinal cord.

 

CONTRALATERAL loss of pain and temperature in both below spinal cord and above medulla

EXCEPTION: is if the lesion is in the middle - bilateral loss of pain and temp.
