Definition
is a shorthand term used to encompass a number of biases and cognitive mechanisms that protect the subject from experiencing extreme negative emotions. They achieve this by ignoring, transforming or constructing information, making the existing state of affairs more bearable while decreasing the appeal of the alternatives.They operate largely or entirely outside conscious awareness.

Affective forecasting
Definition
is the forecasting of one's affect (emotional state) in the future. This kind of prediction is affected by various kinds of cognitive biases, i.e. systematic errors of thought. Daniel Gilbert of the department of social psychology at Harvard University and other researchers in the field, such as Timothy Wilson of the University of Virginia and George Loewenstein of Carnegie Mellon University, have studied these cognitive biases and given them names such as "empathy gap" and "impact bias".

Examples of the impact bias include over-estimating emotional reactions to Valentine's Day, football games, elections, movie clips and the reactions of juries to criminal trials.

is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment.[1] It may evoke changes in them such as cognitive dissonance or low self-esteem, rendering the victim additionally dependent on the gaslighter for emotional support and validation. Using denial, misdirection, contradiction, and misinformation, gaslighting involves attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim's beliefs.

is a derogatory term to define public relations activities for political institutions, political actors or corporations that emphasize or exaggerate the most positive aspects of something. The term does not indicate a profession, like public relations, or a neutral activity, like political communication, but is a biased expression used by journalists to discredit the work of public relations experts. The term is commonly used to refer to campaigns and communications that are based on deception and manipulation. Governments, political actors, and corporations are using this technique to protect their image from criticism, to achieve consensus and public support and to sell their ideas and opinions. In politics, the concept of spin doctoring is tied to the process of mediatization, which has made politicians and political institutions more concerned for their appearance and how they are represented in mass media than the political reality.

There are examples of at least that have different recollection of event in which they participated. In those they term to have a rather idyllic behavior or performance. This could be useful for them to keep a high self-esteem.

This type of thinking evolved earlier than the conscious mind, enabling the mind to transform information and think in ways that enhance an organism's survival.
