Term
What are the adverse effects/contraindications of adrenergic drugs?
Definition
Hypertention (Coronary Artery Disease/CHF)
Hyperthyroidism
Tachycardia
Diabetes
Stimulated CNS?
Term
What do adrenergic drugs do?
Definition
They constrict BV to prevent the leaking out of fluids that cause congestion.
Term
How does androgens effect people with hypertension?
Definition
People with HBP already have too much pressure being exerted on the BV and to constrict them would mean puting more pressure on them.
Term
What is an aneurysm?
Definition
When a BV erupts due to the pressure being to great for the BV to handle (usually with arteriosclerosis)
Term
How does adrenergic drugs effect people with CAD?
Definition
People with CAD have atherosclerosis which makes their arterial walls very fragile and weak in certain spots. When the pressure exerted on the walls of the BV increases, it may cause an aneurysm.
Term
How do adrenergic drugs effect people with CHF?
Definition
The left ventricle is weak in people with CHF therefore their CO is very low. Increasing the BP decreases the amount of oxygenated blood to the tissues which increases the demand for oxygenated blood. Adrenergic drugs increase the contractility of the heart which overworks the left ventricle. The blood is not getting pumped around fast enough so the demand continues to increase until heart fails.
