What is the Teleological Argument?
Definition
Paley suggested the analogy of a watchmaker. He said that if you found a watch on the beach, you would see how intricate and detailed it was. But if you saw a stone you would say it wasn't designed. Therefore, someone must have designed the watch. He said that it is the same as the world. Someone must have designed it- for Paley that was God.
Term
What are the problems with the Teleological Argument?
Definition
Paley compared the watch to a stone and said a stone wasn't intelligently designed but a stone is part of the world and therefore is intelligently designed.
The world could have been an accident but looks like it was designed.
What happened to Paley's God? Did it disappear after creating the world?
