  • As commander in chief, presidents sometimes decide they must use the armed forces to carry out a foreign policy decision. Many times they have sent troops to trouble spots around the world. This has been done even when Congress has not declared war.

Definition
The president decides when the cabinet is to meet. The president may also ask the vice president and other top aides to join meetings of the cabinet. Meetings may be held as often as once a week or hardly at all. Many presidents have not relied heavily on their cabinets. They often have felt free to ignore cabinet advice. They expect the department heads to carry out their policies, though.

How does the Electoral

College effect presidential elections?


 

Definition
He or she is elected by a group called the Electoral College. Each state and the District of Columbia have a certain number ofelectors. The number of electoral votes is equal to the total number of senators and representatives a state has. The District of Columbia also has three of them. As a result, there are 538 members of the Electoral College.
