 Definition
The therapist must take control at the beginning of treatment and establish the structure of the therapeutic relationship. Thus, the therapist decides who will be seen, the focus of treatment, and boundaries in the therapeutic process. The therapist has to win this battle, otherwise the family will recreate problematic behavioral patterns.
