Term
t=
Definition
(xbar-μ)/(S/√n)
Term
df (degree of freedom)=
Definition
n-1
Term
How do you use the t-chart to find a p-value?
Definition

1. use n-1 to figure out df

2. find t-value on chart next to df

3. go up to "area to the right"

4. decimal is p-value

-if t-score isn't on chart, p-value≈0

-if between # on chart, write between 2 decimals

ex. if n=20, df=19, t=2.94, p-value= between .005 and .001

Term
(sample) statistic symbols
Definition

proportion: p-hat

Mean: x-bar

Standard Deviation: S

Term
(population) parameter symbols
Definition

proportion: pi Π

Mean: mu μ

Standard deviation: sigma σ

Term
confidence interval for pi
Definition
p-hat +/- Z√(p-hat(1-p-hat)/n)
Term
confidence interval for μ
Definition
x-bar +/- t-value(S/√n)
Term
How do you find the t-value?
Definition

1. calculate df using n-1

2. Go to t-table and find df in left column

3. Go over to confidence level percentage, this is t-value
