One of the objects or numbers belonging to a set of data. (person, item, object, can have many distinct characteristics)

Population
Definition
The entire variable being studied, or complete collection of elements (I.E. the population of a province).

Sample
Definition
A selection of some, but not all, of the elements in a population. (I.E. people who responded to a survey in the province.)

Definition
A study in which all members of a population are included in the study.

Definition
A common characteristic of elements that take on any one of a set of values (I.E. Age).

Quantitive Variables
Definition
Varuables with numerical values (I.E. income).

Qualitative Variable
Definition
Variables with descriptive values (I.E. the colour of people's cars)

Discrete Variable
Definition
Variables that can take on only certian values within a given range. There are "gaps" between possible values. (only intergers... 1, 2, 3...)

Continuous Variables
Definition
Variables with an infinite number of values within a given range. Its values are not countable. (included fractions/decimals... I.E. 45.6/MPH, 45.9/MPH, 50.7/MPH...)

Definition
A variable that influences or affects other variables (I.E. education influencing income.)

Dependent Variable
Definition
A variable that is influenced or affected by other variables (I.E. income being affected by education level).
