Term
| What is a bunsen burner used for? |
Definition
| To heat object or sterilize objects. |
Term
| Explain the process which to transfer a pure culture of a bacteria to an agar plate. Hint: Remember sterilization. |
Definition
| Set up the bunsen burner. Ignite using the flint/matches. Using a loop, place it into the tip of the blue part of the flame and slowly pull the loop through it. Allow it to cool for only a moment. Touch the loop to the center of the agar plate. Then, using your pinky on the hand you are holding the loop in, untwist the cap of the container with the bacteria and place the loop inside. After, recap the test tube. Spread the sample across one part of the agar. Then, sterilize. Repeat until you have finished the 4 quadrant pattern. Sterilize the loop again and cover your agar plate. |
